Lilyth – Book 2 (The Shadow Spirits Paradox)

lilyth-book-2

In “Lilyth–Book 2” the story begun in Book 1 is continued. Lilyth has realized that she loves Tristan and has set off to save him, even though that would mean endangering herself, something that others want to prevent, since she seems to be the child of prophecy who is destined to save her people from the demon menacing them. Lilyth has to figure out how to balance the two demands and save Tristan while serving the greater good.

Like the first book in the series, this is a very fast-paced, lightly drawn YA fantasy that is a small part of a greater story (cliffhanger haters beware: the overall story is not finished here, but is left to be completed in a later installment). It’s somewhat darker in tone than many YA works, though: Lilyth’s romance with Tristan is a comparatively minor part of the story, while her encounters with death, both as a phenomenon and as an entity, loom at least as large. It’s a very quick read that moves the plot along briskly, so readers looking for a slightly different YA fantasy story that they can finish in a single evening may very likely enjoy it.

My thanks to the author for providing a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
