“Shadows, Darkness and Light” by P. Zoro

I’m not normally a huge fan of short story collections, but I absolutely loved this one. The stories are emotionally intense in a way that I don’t normally find short stories to be–so much so that sometimes the book was hard to read, even though there was nothing particularly graphic about it. I really felt like I got to know the characters and empathize with them. The descriptions of Zimbabwe were also lush and vivid. It’s a culture I know almost nothing about, but I was easily able to picture what was happening, and I certainly learned a lot! Highly recommend: it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.
