| Hello All! Happy Autumnal Equinox! To start off, here’s a delightful Finnish song about fall for your listening pleasure: |
| In my own news, I’ve been slowly working on the audiobook of The Midnight Land for…well, ever since May. I’ve been stopping and starting to work on other projects, though, so something that was always going to be slow going has been even slower going than usual. However, one of those other projects is an illustrated edition of The Midnight Land! The first book has been formatted and is off to the printers now. I’ll be sure to share pictures once I get a proof copy back.I decided to do an illustrated edition because I thought it would be fun and because I have a student who’s just started a graduate program in illustration, so I wanted to work with her before she became too famous for the likes of me 🙂 Now I’m contemplating doing an illustrated boxed set sometime down the line. As part of that, I’d probably do a Kickstarter. This has led me to plunge into the wild and wonderful world of Kickstarters. It turns out there are several interesting-looking projects being funded right now, such as Son of Andrattür, an epic fantasy featuring Norse dragons, or To Root Somewhere Beautiful, an anthology of stories about nature taking its own back. One of the benefits of Kickstarter (so I have been told) is that it’s a place for slightly unusual projects, books that don’t fit into the mainstream retail categories and algorithms, to flourish. That certainly seems to be the case with the projects I’ve been looking recently, and is a major draw for those of us who’ve gotten bored with the same old, same old that the ‘Zon serves up. What about you? Do you have any Kickstarter projects you’ve backed recently or that you’d like to share? Or any weird or quirky reading or listening recommendations in general? I’m all ears! Happy reading! E.P. |
